In furtherance of our mission to improve access to music, we are excited to serve as a non-profit Fiscal Sponsor for music makers and organizers in California. We can help you reach your goals by securing funding.

How does this work? You can find foundations, government institutions, and philanthropic individuals devoted to giving money to the arts. However, they are often looking for 501(c)(3) tax status, for both individual donations and grant applications. As an independent artist, band,  small organization, or one-time festival/event, it may not make sense for you to apply for 501(c)(3) status. Fortunately, there is another way – fiscal sponsorship.

With fiscal sponsorship, all funds come through the Sunshine Sound Center. We charge an administrative fee of 5-10%, depending on the size and complexity of the project. We handle all accounting and reporting (when appropriate), and promote your project on our website and social media.

The basic requirements are as follows:

  • You must be located in California
  • Project must align with our mission
  • We cannot assist with commercial projects with the primary goal of making money
  • You must have a US tax identification number (either a Social Security Number or EIN)
  • If accepted, you must sign a fiscal sponsorship agreement

To be considered, fill out the form below. We review applications on an ongoing basis, and you will hear back within 30 days. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at info(at)sunshinesoundcenter.org.
